A woman who was looking forward to traveling with her family for the holidays received some bad news when she landed the Bahamas Christmas Day.
Atlanta resident Alison Joyner discovered that two of her designer handbags, worth a total of $4,500, were missing from her checked luggage after flying with her Delta Air LinesFox 5 Atlanta reported.
“I definitely felt violated,” Joyner told Fox 5. “Why would anyone do that? Why me?”
While unpacking at her hotel, Joyner noticed that her belongings looked disheveled and that her blue Chanel clutch and Louis Vuitton clutch were missing.

According to the report, Joyner said she put an Apple AirTag in her Chanel bag before the flight. While tracking, Joyner found the marker 30 miles south of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
“I said, ‘Let me check my phone,'” Joyner said. “It says it’s a place in Senoia, Georgia, that I’ve never been to.”

Fox 5 reported that the Delta passenger, who was also a Platinum SkyMiles Medallion member, reported it immediately missing items contacted the airline and said she was in disbelief considering she had traveled with Delta several times in the past.
“Although it is rare, Delta does not tolerate baggage theft of any kind and will investigate the incident,” Delta told the local station. “We are reaching out to this customer to seek remedial action.”
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that it is investigating a theft reported by Joyner, but the incident report is still in progress and has not yet been completed.
Fox News Digital reached out to Delta for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

The Atlanta resident said the incident could change her future travel plans.
“It’s something I’ll definitely reconsider in the future,” Joyner said. “I just never thought this would happen, especially on Christmas Day where it’s all about joy, giving and kindness.”
Theft from checked baggage is nothing new. The Department of Homeland Security said in 2005 that dozens of TSA baggage screening devices were stopped at several major U.S. airports in 2005 for alleged theft of valuables from checked bags.
The incident serves as a reminder to take precautions while traveling, such as packing valuable items in carry-on luggage or using tracking devices like AirTags.
