The house minority manager Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., found that he is planning to take part in President Donald Trumps Tuesday evening address before a joint meeting of the congress.
“In view of my responsibility in the house, I plan to take part in the speech together with other members of the democratic leadership to make it clear to the nation that there is a strong opposition party that is ready and able to serve the administration’s excesses as a check and balance,” said Jeffries in a message to colleagues.

“The decision to take part in the joint session is personally and we understand that members will come to different conclusions,” said Jeffries.
“However, it is important to have a strong, determined and worthy democratic presence in the chamber. The house as an institution belongs to the American people, and as its representatives we are not bullied by the block or,” he continued.
Some democratic legislators have announced that they will skip the event.
