A Texan community is After the city council’s decision to dismiss their last police officers, led with more drama.
On Monday, the city council of Hawkins voted for the end of the last employee in the Hawkins Police Department, Eric tuma.
The termination of Tuma was based on the reasons for the “falling of vulnerable duties” and “task of post” in accordance with the Council’s agenda meetings.
During the meeting, Hawkin Mayor Debbie Rushing said that they had received reports that Tuma had not responded to calls. KLTV reported.

“I am very disturbed and I can’t believe it,” said council member Eric Maloy after the meeting towards Ketk. “They want our police back. They miss them. The community, the citizens.”
Maloy announced that Tuma recently took a break for a family emergency and had informed the city and the Sheriff office of the Wood County about his absence, reported KLTV.
The police and the city’s offices have been shaken since 2021 Several resignations and dismissals.

Tuma, a native of Hawkins, was formerly chief of interiors of the police after the resignation of the former boss Guy McKee in February 2024. Two other police officers also resigned at that time, as well as the judge of the city court, Kyle Waggner.
Hawkins, a municipality in East Texas with 1,300 inhabitants, is located 20 miles north of Tyler, Texas.
The termination of Tuma comes after firing three other officials in February and found that the decision is based on “improper employment procedures and the desire to start the right way”.

Rushing said the officials were not properly hired because they were not approved by the city council, so that Tuma was left as the sole officer in the department.

Maloy also announced KLTV that the city is currently exposed to 16 lawsuits, including many of those who come from former officers.
