It has 15 new sports profiles compared to the Forerunner 965, including things such as the backcountry snowboard, pickle ball and even some motorsports. However, the list is not as extensive as the Fenix 8, which can pursue surfing and now acts as a complete diving guard for leisure divers and free diving. It really feels as if the defect is only differentiated between the templates and Fenix lines, since a software update can do this.
Fortunately, the map characteristics from the Fenix 8 were shared and they are excellent. It is installed with extensive topographical cards. The cards are colorful, bright and easy to navigate by stealing and tapping. A new feature is round trip routing with corrections (theoretical). If you are in an unknown city, you can see the watch that you want to carry out a 5-mile run, and a loop will suggest for you. If you accidentally take a wrong curve or see something nicely that you want to check out, you will be diverted smoothly to bring you back to your hotel while you reach your target distance (of course within the ground).
It’s a great idea, but I could never get it up. If I went off the route, the whole clock would crash and I had to put it by bike. Hopefully this can fix this in a future software update Garmin (the updates are carried out about once a month). On the other hand, I found that the GPS performance was also precise for trees, cliffs and high buildings.

It is worth noting that Garmin has also launched the new center area Forerunner 570. It has a shorter battery life, fewer premium materials (Gorilla Glass 3 against Sapphire, aluminum bezel against titanium), less memory at 8 GB compared to 32 GB, no built -in mapping and no flashlight. However, you get the speaker and the microphone, and it is possible to make a 42 -mm display instead of only 47 mm, which is nice for those with smaller wrists.
After all of this that many of these functions are available on the Fenix 8. The Fenix 8 has more expensive materials such as a complete titanium body. Some of the same hardware as the microphone and the speaker and a better battery life. There are some functions that are currently not available, e.g. B. run tolerance, but these come via via A huge new software update This Garmin has just announced.
The Fenix 8 is much more expensive than the Forerunner 970, but it is also much older. If the Fenix 8 is for sale, as is time, it is a child’s play to get it instead. The Forerunner 970 is a premium watch with advanced functions with which you offer a lot of insight and support when you try to become a professional, but it could be exaggerated if you are not and occasionally like to surf.
