Aurora, Colorado, police arrested a suspect in connection with a weekend on Monday morning Leave a woman dead And another critically injured. The authorities identified the man as a Venezuelan citizen who is reportedly without legal status in the United States.
After 30-year-old Michel Jordan Castellano-Fonseca, the authorities were looking for an apartment in North Central Aura after early Sunday morning. At the time of the incident, there were also five children aged 1 to 15 in the apartment.

Aurora Todd Chamberlain’s police chief described the attack “a tragedy that should never have happened”, and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the authorities and the access to technology to prevent and react to them.
“This was a heartbreaking and avoidable loss of life,” said Chamberlain at a press conference on Monday. “The person responsible should never have been in the United States.”
Chamberlain identified Castellano-Fonseca as A Venezuelan citizen who entered the USA in 2023 and settled in Florida for the first time before moving to Aurora. He added that the suspect had not initiated a process to receive legal residence residence or citizenship. While the suspect was previously quoted in Florida due to a traffic violation, no further legal measures were taken at that time.

Chamberlain informed further details about the shootout, which indicates that it is probably due to an incident with domestic violence.
According to the investigators, the event chain began on Saturday evening, when the suspect, allegedly under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, left the apartment and contacted someone to help him buy a firearm. The police said the children were not physically damaged during the shootout.
After the shootout, Castellano-Fonseca fled in a green Acura MDX SUV with Colorado license plate CV0668. The police spent a public alarm and described it as “armed and dangerous”.
The investigators used surveillance systems to pursue the vehicle and the movements of the suspect. He was finally in a Taco bell, where he was arrested without incident.
Chamberlain confirmed that the suspect had a history of violence and accused him of having endangered the lives of those he took care of. “This person is now from the street and in custody,” he said.
While the authorities confirmed that the residents of the apartment were also Venezuelan immigrants, their legal status remains unclear. Sacrificial support services are currently working with them.

Chamberlain also spoke about the more comprehensive challenges that the law enforcement agencies, including the influx of immigrants to Aurora and the tension between local and federal authorities in relation to the enforcement of immigration.
He criticized current restrictions that restrict the cooperation between the local police with federal authorities such as ICE, especially according to the recent legal measures by the Attorney General of Colorado, Phil Weiser.
“Officials are afraid of being punished only because of cooperation with federal partners,” said Chamberlain. “This is a serious concern for the local law enforcement authorities who try to deal with increasing crimes. We are not here to aim immigrants. We are here to hold criminals.”
