Elijah Wood will always be associated with that Lord of the rings Films, but the actor has also built up a variety of unusual characters in his career. Maybe his most strange has come with you so far The poisonous avengerThe long -awaited Remake of the cult classic that is finally hits the cinemas Later this month. Wood plays an unforgettable support as Fritz, the brother and henchman of Kevin Bacons, Schrägem Schöricht. He doesn’t look as crazy as the title mutant, who is played in human form by Peter Dinklage, but he comes terribly close.
IO9 had the chance to talk to Wood about it The poisonous avenger (and a few other things in this sense) On the youngest San Diego Comic-Con.
Cheryl Eddy, IO9: Fritz is many things. He is the head of security, he is a music manager, he is the brother of the villain. And it also looks very unusual. Did you come up with a background story so that he explained how his life was up to this point?
Elijah Wood: No, but I think that the writing on the wall is probably selected as it was born physically deformed. His brother was always smarter, prettier and capable. I think he really wanted to be loved and wasn’t; He was stepped aside and treated like shit. And so I think that in “I think I am the henchman”, and I think that released it, not necessarily an evil in it, but I think it was like resentment was breeding dark deeds. I think he became the way he is.
And then of course his brother only said: “I will make you make my command”, to which he somehow agrees. And I think you see that in the film; He really just wants to be loved. He is actually a kind of sweet guy and he only misunderstood.
IO9: We saw them at the beginning of this year when they played a completely different kind of villain in the kind of villain The monkey. Which character in your opinion is more hideous?
Wood: Oh, (The monkeyTed Hammerman without question. By the way, is a great word. Yes, Ted is terrible. Only a poisonous man (who) believes that he knows better than everyone else. He has his entire perspective on what makes a great father, although I don’t believe that he really knows what makes a great father. That was an explosion. I love Osgood (Perkins, director of The monkey) Also, and it was a pleasure to come a little and to join it. I’ve been a fan of him for a long time.
IO9: You have in the star park Crap rEmake in 2012. And now they are in the new Poisonous avenger. What draws you to these cult -loss titles and is there one you want to see again in the future, whether you are in it or not?
Wood: It’s all cumbersome. That, I was dressed because it took the source material and did something really different with it. Remakes are difficult, they know, and these two films are related in the sense that they have made something new out of the starting material instead of capturing it in the same way.
I was really dressed Insane Because … my character doesn’t really appear. It is primarily a POV film. I love Pov Horror; It’s really interesting. There is a great POV horror film from the 60s. Tensioner. It reminded me of me Tensioner A little bit about how wonderfully you pick up and put them in the way of thinking or at least the POV from the characters. That was the reason why I wanted to do that. And I love the creative team behind this film.
And then, I mean, macon (blair, director of Poisonous avenger), I will do everything Macon asks; I am a big fan of his work. I worked with him on this film by name I no longer feel at home in this worldAnd so I will do everything for him. He is a dear friend. And then it was just a great time to play such a character like this in this universe. I think it was clear that it was an approach to the original material that was a lot, but was a total reverence of what Lloyd (Kaufman von Troma Entertainment) created.
So it was cumbersome that these two things came into my life. I don’t know that I choose these things, but I love genre and I will always be interested in doing something strange and funny and absurd.
The poisonous avenger beats the cinemas August 29th.
