Ryan Devries, who works as a first aider in real estate management and voluntarily, left his firearm in his car before participating in Kirk’s event and anticipated metal detectors. He told the Associated Press that he too was surprised by the lack of security.

“People definitely feared their lives. I could see it in their eyes. I could hear it in their voices. People cried. It was a nightmare,” said Devries.
Devries went to the turning point of the University Student Chapter table, where he and his members joined a prayer for Kirk.
