Granger Smith’s wife Amber Smith opens up on a devastating chapter in her life.
The 46-year-old former country star And the 42-year-old actress suffered a tragedy in 2019 when her 3-year-old son River drowned in the pool in front of her house in Texas.
Granger previously revealed in his 2023 memoir “Like a River” that he had almost committed suicide after his son’s loss after reaching one of his lowest points.
In her upcoming memoir “the girl on the bathroom floor” Amber told the shaking night of Granger’s near-suicide attempt from her view and detailed how her husband “put a cold glock 9mm in his mouth”. She also said that he told her year later how close he pressed the deduction.
“One night after a show with the boys in Boise, Idaho,” Amber began on Thursday in an excerpt of the book published by People Magazine.

Amber wrote when Granger returned, he struggled to get on the tour bus because he couldn’t remember the door code – a number of numbers that he had pressed hundreds of times.

Amber described how her husband was overwhelmed by the “slide show” to torture the mental pictures of her son’s last moments.
“The visions of the river in the pool attacked his thoughts and lies pierced his conscience that he was a failure as a father that he had left the river down,” she continued. “At a moment of complete despair, he fed to the weapon, which he kept on the street in the drawer out of safety, and aimed to end the pain.”

Amber announced that at this dark moment she still struggles with suicide from grief about her husband’s struggle.

“I even cry when I tap,” she wrote. “It breaks my heart that he had the feeling that this was the only way. I wish I knew it. I wish I would have grabbed him, shaken him and say: ‘You are a good father! I love you! We have it! That is not the way!’
“But I didn’t have to,” she continued. “By the sheer grace of God, Granger realized that the voice he said quietly that he should pull the deduction should not.

“He did the only thing he knew and screamed: ‘Jesus, save me! Save me, please, Jesus, save me!'”, She wrote in the book. “At that moment of bringing to God, the visions suddenly listened, the gun slipped out of his hand and he collapsed on the floor and slept into a puddle of his own tears, which were completely dressed on the bathroom floor of his bus.”
Amber remembered that Granger wrote her an SMS the next morning and said that he had “a terrible night”, drank too much and “face face” with Satan.
“He never told me that he was so close to pulling the deduction,” she wrote. “Only three and a half years later.”

“I had a thought and it was Lincoln and London, my two children at home. That was the first thought to hit me,” he said. “I thought I had just seen her faces and then said: ‘Jesus, help me.'”
He explained that the handover of his faith could be on his way to the minister at that moment.
“I said, ‘Jesus, save me’, and suddenly I felt life stopped for the first time,” said Granger. “The slide show stopped. I pushed the weapon out of my hand and it hit the shore and I fell on the floor and I cried and I was horrified at my shame and my guilt and the weakness and the weakness I was and the lack of strength I had, and the weak man I was, hit me all immediately and was the beginning.”
Since the death of the river, Granger and Amber, who welcomed their youngest son Maverick in August 2021, have been open supporters for children’s water security.
