We are only a few weeks away from arrival It: Welcome to Derrybut fans of San Diego Comic-Con this summer and New York Comic Con this past weekend got their first glimpses of what to expect the Stephen King series. At SDCC, HBO unveiled the very first scene in the seriesand io9 was lucky enough to be there – although it hasn’t let go of us since.

With It: Welcome to DerryWith the premiere ending on October 26th, everyone will soon be able to enjoy the harrowing sequence. And It And It’s chapter two Helmer Andy Muschietti, co-creator of the HBO series and director of several episodes, is here to explain/warn you about the thinking behind the opening.

“We wanted to raise the bar in terms of shock value,” said Muschietti deadline. “It’s about the self-imposed mission of starting with an event so shocking that you put the audience in a position where nothing is taken for granted, where nothing is certain in this world.”

He continued. “You immediately get people excited. We needed a strong opening. One of the things I love about this scene is the build-up. Of course it has a big, graphic and shocking ending, but the build-up is something that was important.”

That’s quite a preview of the setup – but we’re here to tell you that the scene doesn’t disappoint. io9 will feature more from Andy Muschietti and his producing partner and sister Barbara Muscheletti, as well as other cast and crew members It: Welcome to Derryas Pennywise’s hour approaches.
