The New York Jets Jordan Travis was drafted in the fifth round last year and was hoping for a comeback from a gruesome leg injury he suffered during his final season at Florida State.

However, Travis was never able to fully recover, and shortly after this year’s draft, he was forced to retire.

“On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn,” Travis said in a statement the Jets released back in April. “I gave everything I could to the rehab process, but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I was medically advised to retire from the sport I love so much.”

In an episode of his own podcast following the Jets owner Woody Johnson criticizes Justin FieldsTravis revealed that Johnson made some “smart comments” directly to him about his injury.

“I gotta tell you, this guy, no disrespect, but there have been things said to me, not obviously to this point because I never got on the field to play, but about my leg,” Travis said on the broadcast Travis Takes Two Podcast. “Those are just superficial comments. I don’t know if he was trying to be superficial. You know, some older people just say whatever comes to mind, and that kind of made me feel a certain way.”

Travis then said Johnson asked him if he would “ever get well.”

“And I’m like, ‘Damn.’ Not like, ‘How do you feel?’ Never, there were always comments like that. It kind of upset me, but it kind of got over my head,” Travis said.

The Jets did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital about Travis’ comments.

Fields responded by helping the Jets make an improbable move 39-38 comeback win about the Cincinnati Bengals heading into their bye week.

“Kudos to Justin Fields. I don’t know if you saw his press conference. You can tell by his face he’s not even upset, bro,” Travis said. “It’s really cool, inspired me, I fucking posted it on my Instagram. Now it’s his chance, he’s getting his attention, God still has his hand on him.”

The Jets appeared to be I’m leaning towards starting Tyrod Taylor for the game, having replaced Fields at halftime a week earlier. However, Taylor was unable to play due to a knee injury.
