Bored Technology company who spend so much money that they are meaningless to you, while talking like messiahs? Here is a company that plans to do this rake in Instead, an unimaginable amount of money, but without so much fanfare: Apple. The world’s largest manufacturer of square prisms expects according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurmanto have its “first ever $140 billion quarter” this holiday season.
This was not one of Gurman’s trademarked leaks, but rather a closer analysis of what Apple CFO Kevan Parekh said during an interview Conference call last week The main focus was on the subdued sales in China in the last quarter: the company is expected to record sales growth of 10 to 12% due to the holiday recovery. That’s perhaps double the 6% growth forecast by Wall Street analysts and would be Apple’s “best iPhone quarter ever.”
If you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “I can barely pay my bills, and neither can anyone else I know. How is Apple supposed to make so much money?” Here’s some context: For the United States, this forecast means rich people will buy a lot of Apple products over the holidays. It’s always the case that consumers with disposable income spend more, but right now, with the majority cutting back on spending due to inflation and wage stagnation, there are places where people with normal incomes are spending in person –like Chipotle– die, and the strong consumer economy dies supported to an unusual extent by the spending habits of the rich.
Apple’s retail stores are definitely not in the same category as Chipotle, and according to Gurman, Apple Stores are “preparing for an ‘overnight'” beginning November 11th. An “overnight” is a bit Apple-speak, meaning rearranging the gadgets and perhaps providing new marketing materials. A new Apple product isn’t going to come out overnight, so, Gurman said, “it’s more related to setting up stores for the holiday season.”
