I’m excited to announce a fantastic addition to our leadership team: Karyne Levy joins VentureBeat as our new Managing Editor. Today is her first day.
Many of you may know Karyne from her most recent role as deputy editor at TechCrunch, but her career is a pinnacle of veteran technology journalism. Your resume includes key roles at Protocol, NerdWallet, Business Insider and CNETgiving her a deep understanding of this industry from every angle.
Karyne’s hiring is a significant step forward for VentureBeat. As we increasingly focus on serving you – the technical decision maker in the organization navigating the complexities of AI and data – I’ve been looking for a very specific type of leader.
In the past, a senior editor was often the last line of support for copy editing. Today the role is much more dynamic in a modern, data-oriented media company like ours. It is the central hub of the entire content operation.
During my search I talked a lot about the two species "Dopamine hits" in our shop. There’s the author’s hit – seeing your name in a great story. And then there’s the organizer’s hit – the satisfaction that comes from building, tuning and operating the complex machine that enables a dozen different parts of the company to move in a single, powerful direction.
We were looking for the organizer.
When I spoke with Karyne, I explained this vision: a leader who thrives on creating workflows and who loves being that Link between the editorial team, our data and survey team, our events and our marketing activities.
Her answer confirmed that she was the right one: "Everything you said is exactly my dopamine hit."
Karyne’s passion is getting the entire operation up and running. She has a proven track record of managing people, leading newsrooms and communicating with all parts of an organization to ensure everyone is on the same page. This operational rigor is exactly what we need for our next chapter.
As I’ve written before, VentureBeat is on a mission to evolve. In an age where experts and companies can publish directly, being a secondary source is not enough. Our goal is to become a Primary source for you.
How? By leveraging our relationship with our community of millions of technical leaders. We’re increasingly interviewing you directly to gain proprietary insights you can’t get anywhere else. We want to be the first to tell you which vector saves your colleagues Strictly speaking implement, What Governance challenges are most pressing for data scientists, right How Your colleagues are planning a budget for generative AI.
This is an ambitious strategy. It requires a well-coordinated team in which our editorial content, our research surveys and reports, our newsletters and our VB Transform events all function according to the same formula.
Karyne is the leader who will help us realize this vision. Her experience at Protocol, where she also served technical and business decision makers, means she fundamentally understands our audience. She is ideally suited to leading our newsroom and ensuring every piece of content we produce helps you do your job better. She will work with Carl Franzen, our Editor-in-Chief, as he continues to drive news decision-making.
This is a fantastic hire for VentureBeat. This is another sign of our commitment to building the most focused team of experts in enterprise AI and data.
Please join me in welcoming Karyne to the team.
