“For Good Will gives its witches some entirely new tunes.”

That was only a month ago Evil began to take the world by storm, and it wasn’t long ago that we learned that the second half would now pass Evil: For Good. Universal isn’t ready to reveal anything about the sequel just yet, but that hasn’t stopped co-star Cynthia Erivo from hyping some of the next film’s changes, particularly in the music.

At a recent appearance on diversity On the Awards Circuit Podcast, Erivo discussed her approach to the role of Elphaba, who eventually becomes the famous evil witch. One thing she mentioned was working closely with the play and film’s composer, Stephen Schwartz, to develop a brand new song for her character. Without giving anything away, she teased, “Even the title will move you.” I don’t know if you’re ready for that. When we shot it, the cast and crew cried. (…) I hope the audience is ready – it’s a song that speaks from Elphaba’s heart.”

You may have forgotten, but Schwartz said there would be a few new songs in 2022 Evil second half “to meet (narrative) needs.” The first film’s music changes were mainly to the characters or setting, to explain that it was no longer a stage musical, but otherwise the songs were the same. Giving Elphaba and Glinda some new tunes keeps things fresh and fun for film and OG fans Evil: Forever feel even more like an event. And it will also tempt you to perform the new songs when the film finally gets its own Sing-along version.

But Evil: Forever has to come out first – on November 21, 2025. If you’ve been waiting to watch the first film at home, there’s good news: it’s here meet digitally on New Year’s Eve.
