Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede recently explained his intentions for the island’s future, stating that major steps toward gaining independence from Denmark are “necessary.”
Egede’s comments follow a Dec. 22 post on Truth Social by President-elect Donald Trump Advocacy for “ownership and control” of Greenland, with emphasis on secession from Denmark.
“The upcoming new legislative period must take these new steps together with the citizens, based on the foundations already laid,” said Egede. “It is time for us to take a step ourselves and shape our future, including in terms of who we will work closely with and who our trading partners will be.”
