The New York Police Department is investigating after a toddler was abandoned in a shopping bag near a Bronx home.
Police responded to a 911 call about a crying baby just after 6 a.m. Sunday and discovered someone putting a baby girl wrapped in blankets in a shopping bag and leaving the bag outside a residence on Rev. James A. Polite Avenue, according to reports it officials.
That’s what the NYPD said the baby, The patient, who has not yet been identified, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition and remains in the care of hospital staff.
“To hear that this is even a thing is very disturbing to this neighborhood,” one local told FOX 5 NY.
NYPD is operating in a “heightened threat environment” leading up to New Year’s Eve celebrations.
According to police, the little girl was left in a green shopping bag in the Bronx.
The department shared a Surveillance video It shows a person in a black hooded coat walking down the sidewalk with a green shopping bag.
A speaker with the Department Fox News Digital told Fox News Digital on Monday that the suspect’s gender was “unclear at this time” and referred the public to the video.
They added that with the baby in the bag there was nothing left.
