comedian Bill Maher said he could imagine voting Republican during an interview on Sunday – but said the party would have to be very different.
During an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Maher – a long-time critic of the president – said Donald Trump and Democratic supporters — said he could “of course” imagine voting Republican, but added: “They definitely have to give up the idea that we don’t allow elections.”
“And my biggest concern is that they feel that the excesses of the left are so great that they are so anti-common sense. And here, too, they have a point – that they have never encountered anything that contradicted their intuition and that they did not embrace. That they simply cannot let these people come to power and therefore, even if they had to – if democracy has to be sacrificed to stay in power,” Maher said. “That’s what I’m worried about.”

Maher wondered whether the GOP would still support the idea of not letting the other side take power once Trump’s second term ends.
“Are they still going to cling to the idea that we can’t let these people come to power? These people, who just have no idea of common sense, want to reinvent everything. They are revolutionaries in a country that doesn’t demand a revolution – they just demand that the politicians fix things. That’s my biggest concern,” the comedian said.
Maher said he hopes for a “return to normalcy” after Trump.
“My hope is that Trump, who won’t concede an election if he’s no longer on the ballot – but again, we’re not even sure because he’s talked about running for a third termwhich is completely constitutionally impossible, but that doesn’t seem to bother him – maybe we’ll return to a sense of normality. Maybe JD Vance and Marco Rubio will go back to what we used to have, but I’m not sure,” he said.

Maher took aim at both sides of the political spectrum during the interview, asking, “Why can’t both be normal?”
The comedian said Trump should stop the “excesses” and told CNN that the president is right about the border, DEI and asking NATO to pay more.

“He showed that you can close the border,” said Maher. “It wasn’t something you needed help from Congress to do. You could just do it, and he did it. He just took it too far. And people don’t like to see people attacked.” at Home Depot and people they know and who have been in this country for a long time.
