Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie reach divorce settlement after bitter 8-year legal battle


Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached an agreement in their divorce after a bitter and high-profile eight-year legal battle.

Jolie’s attorney James Simon told Fox News Digital that the 61-year-old actor and the 49-year-old actress signed their divorce on Monday.

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Simon said in a statement. “She and the children left all possessions they had shared with Mr. Pitt and since then she has focused on finding peace and healing for her family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that began eight years ago.” Honestly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved that this one part is over.

A source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital: “She doesn’t speak ill of him publicly or privately. She tried very hard to be calm after a dark time.”

“The kids grew up knowing that some people have so much power and privilege that their voice doesn’t matter,” the insider added. “Your pain doesn’t count. They have wanted her to speak for herself and defend herself over the years, but she reminds them to focus on changing laws rather than telling public stories.”

A representative for Pitt declined to comment on the settlement.

Jolie and Pitt met on the set of their film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” from 2004 and made their romance public after the actor and his then-wife Jennifer Aniston announced their separation. The couple became a tabloid staple with their relationship and were nicknamed “Brangelina.”

In August 2014, the former couple tied the knot at their French winery, Château Miraval.

The two share sons Maddox, Pax and Knox (16) and daughters Zahara, Shiloh and Vivienne.

In 2016, The actress filed for divorce after accusing Pitt of physically abusing her and her children during an altercation on a private jet. Pitt denied the allegations and no charges were filed against him after the FBI conducted an investigation in 2016.

A judge declared Jolie and Pitt divorced and single in 2019, but the division of assets and custody of the children had to be settled separately.

Shortly thereafter, a private judge appointed by the two to handle the case made a decision that granted equal custody of their children, but Jolie requested that he be removed from the case due to an unreported conflict of interest. An appeals court agreed, firing the judge and reversing his decision. The former couple had to start the process all over again.

During the long divorce battle, four of her children grew up, so there was no longer any need Custody agreement for her. The only minors left are 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. In June, Shiloh, then known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, successfully petitioned to have Pitt’s name removed from her last name.

Pitt and Jolie were also involved in a heated legal battle over Château Miraval. A judge ruled in an order issued in November that Pitt’s claims he made against Jolie in 2022 can go to trial, Fox News Digital confirmed. Pitt accused his ex-wife of breaking the former couple’s contract when she “secretly” sold her shares in their winery to the Stoli Group.

The judge ruled that there was an implied contract and an oral agreement between Pitt and Jolie. There is a written agreement for shares in the holding company, according to the order obtained by Fox News Digital.

In order to settle this matter out of court, Pitt asked Jolie to reverse the sale of her share of Miraval to Yuri Shefler.

The former couple acquired a majority stake in Miraval Castle in 2008 and spent time at home throughout their relationship. Jolie attempted to sell her company Nouvel to Tenute Del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, in 2021, effectively transferring her 50 percent ownership stake to Miraval. Pitt has pushed back against this sale, claiming the move violates a contract between the two.

Meanwhile, Jolie’s company claimed Pitt was the mastermind of a “vengeful campaign” to “loot” the profitable company since she first filed for divorce.

According to the Associated Press, the divorce agreement does not affect the lawsuit against the winery, where the legal battle between the two stars could continue.

Since his breakup with Jolie Pitt has moved on with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon. The couple’s relationship was confirmed in November 2022. In recent months, Pitt and de Ramon have made their romance public and attended several events together.

In September, the couple made their first red carpet appearance at the Venice Film Festival.

In October, a source told People magazine that Jolie was currently single.

“Angelina continues to focus on her family and is not currently dating,” the insider said.
