California trans battle: Controversial HS athlete laughs off criticism

Transgender light athlete from Hernandez won two first first place medals in the California State Championships at the beginning of this month and laughs at the counter reaction on Saturday.

The athlete of the Jurupa Valley High School was at the center of the controversy to participate in the transgender athletes in the California High School Athletics. It was convicted by the president Donald Trump and duel lawsuits between the Ministry of Justice and the state.

The Californian interscholastic federation even made a change so that biological females receive the first place medals if its reputation was sold by a transgender athlete.

“It’s definitely crazy. I get a lot of hate comments, but I don’t care”, Hernandez told KCRA TV With a laugh. “I’m a 16-year-old girl with a crazy attitude you think, I will be interested?”

According to the station, Hernandez tried to avoid the ramp light before it turned out that the athlete identified as a transgender. Hernandez finished third in the Triple Jump State final of the girls before winning the event as a junior in 2025. Hernandez also won the girls’ high jump this year.

Hernandez called the protests that followed “strange” and swore to take a side from the critics and not back from the competition.

“I did what I wanted to do,” said Hernandez of the station. “I have all in all, so I really wanted to do the goal.

Trump signed the Executive Order “No Men in Women’s Sports” in February and prohibited schools, to allow men to take part in girls and women’s sports. California was one of five countries in which transgender athletes won in championships during the 2024-25 medals High school sports Season.
