David Allen refuses to see himself as an outsider to Johnny Fisher.
The two heavyweights fight live in the Riyadh Season Bill on Saturday with Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury Sky Sports box office.
Fisher, the “Romford Bull,” is a popular up-and-coming heavyweight and the undefeated favorite in this fight.
Allen, from Doncaster, is a veteran of penalty fights. However, he told it Sky Sports: “I think experience is a factor. But I’m better than him. Really. That sounds absurd to a lot of people because they saw me out of shape.”
“Johnny Fisher is very confident and very smart. The people around him say he is better than he is. He’s good, but not great.”
Allen had sparring with Fisher and believes this will put a strain on his opponent’s mind.
“I think he will be nervous because we were sparring and I beat him. He watched me on TV for years, he kind of looked up to me. I was in that position,” Allen said. “This fight pits a lot of me against David Price.”
“When I boxed against Price, I’m a fan of David Price and I box against David Price, it hit me a little bit.”
But Allen also revealed that he himself would be “scared.”
“I’ve boxed really good fighters, but never once did I think, ‘He’s going to knock me out or take me out.’ “That never occurred to me. There’s something like, if he hits me, I’m going over,” Allen said.
“It really turned me on. The thought that I could be on a highlight reel is terrifying. I trained really hard. Mainly for this reason.”
Allen stated, “I’m not a liar. These are not mind games. I’ll try him, he’ll try me. That’s okay. I’m faster, I was a very good amateur.
“I’m going to treat it like a three-minute boxing match. I’ll win all three rounds and there’s every chance I’ll knock him into something and knock him out. That’s how I treat this fight.”
“I’m just going to outsmart him for three rounds, and when I outsmart him, I’m going to run him into something… And if it goes beyond three rounds, we’ll make it an old-school, four-round amateur fight.”
However, Fisher tellingly hit back Sky Sports: “If I’m not nervous, something is wrong.”
But he added: “The fight doesn’t make me nervous. I was 19 when it happened and it was just a fight. Nothing unusual happened in this fight. I didn’t go down, I didn’t get dropped and I proved. For myself, I could be a professional boxer that day because I can take punishment and keep going.
“I am prepared for all eventualities. I can box and I can also punch. So if he wants to throw the kitchen sink at it from the first round, that might be his only option, we’ll see.”
“He can make it a three-round fight. That will be great because then it will be an ordeal from the start. And I love an ordeal.”
