Dr. Frank Turek defended it capital punishmentand said it was supported by the Christian faith.
The Christian author and speaker told Fox News Digital why he supports the death penalty even though there is “no doubt” that the man is charged Charlie Kirk’s assassination is actually guilty.
“Of course we have to do this carefully. We have to make sure beyond a reasonable doubt that the person is actually guilty,” Turek said.
Turek pointed to Bible passages that he said support the death penalty.

“Romans 13 says that the leader does not bear the sword for nothing, that is, the governor or the king bears the sword for nothing,” Turek said. “This is a reference to the death penalty. When Jesus stood before Pilate, Pilate said to Jesus, ‘Don’t you know that I have the authority to kill you?’ And Jesus said, “Yes, you do, but you get that authority from above.”
Turek stated: “In other words, the government has the right to impose the death penalty for capital crimes.”
He said you can’t “turn the other cheek” in severe cases. Crimes like murderand added that this order was misunderstood.
“People will say, ‘How about turning the other cheek?’ People here don’t seem to understand that. There are different commands for individuals and different commands. If governments always turned the other cheek, there would be anarchy, no one would be safe, people would be murdered, people would be raped, people would be deprived of their livelihoods.”

Turek said, “The Creator grants rights and the government is supposed to secure those rights from a biblical perspective.”
“James Madison famously said, ‘If men were angels, there would be no need for government.’ Do we need a government if everyone were angels? No, a government would not be necessary. “The reason we have a government is to protect the innocent people from evil, to protect rights and to secure rights,” Turek said. “If a government doesn’t do that, it is an illegitimate government.”
Turek said America’s original founding shows that rights come from God, not the government.

“Governments don’t give you your rights,” Turek said. “Governments are only supposed to secure your rights.”
