The news is so exciting that the teaser image seemingly only dares to show the outlines of what’s to come – but Godzilla’s giant, spiky noggin is unmistakable. Alamo Drafthouse and Toho International are preparing for another wave of themed merchandise Godzilla day– November 3rd, Godzilla’s 71st birthday! – and at the top of the list is the Big G’s first-ever popcorn bucket.
Now Godzilla is obviously timeless and doesn’t have to follow trends to delight children. But a popcorn bucket is somewhat of a status symbol these days, and the snack-ready head of the king of all kaiju would quite wrong the toothy ones Jaw Bucket Alamo Drafthouse was released this summer.
In a press release describing the bucket as “a highly anticipated first for Godzilla collectors,” the theater chain announces the character’s “first-ever popcorn bucket, developed in collaboration with Toho International and based on the ‘Showa Era’ of Godzilla. Designed by Scott Sugiuchi of Alamo Drafthouse, it is the first in a series of popcorn buckets that will last until 2026 and beyond. The Bucket – available for pre-order from October 27th at Alamo Mart– is just one of several new items releasing to celebrate Godzilla’s birthday, including an exclusive t-shirt, hoodie, hat and set of pins.
