Hideo Kojima’s “PT” demo helps Japanese children learn English

Since then, over a decade has passed Kojima Productions released PT, an interactive PlayStation 4 demo intended to prepare the studio’s next project, Silent hills. The demo was withdrawn after the game cancellationbut in Japan it has found new life as a tool for speaking English.

Per automatNiigata Prefecture’s Tsunan Secondary School recently began enrolling a fifth-grader class – roughly high school students in the West PT completely in English, from dialogue to menu text. After certain sections, the teacher pauses the demonstration to ask students which direction they should go, and they would have to respond in English with phrases like “walk across the room” or “answer the phone.” From there, they would dictate the player’s next action.

In a translated one School blogThe teacher revealed that the demo scared students a few times with its jump scares, but ultimately described the class as “an atmosphere that was a mix of excitement and excitement” as students learned the new language.

The use of PT adds an interesting twist to the demo’s ongoing legacy. After the release and delisting, several games like Layers of fear And Resident Evil 7 (and the director’s cut of Kojima’s own Death Stranding) referred to or were clearly inspired by them. There were several too Fan-made remakes released for free on PC and VR, and Christophe Gans, director/writer of the upcoming Return to Silent Hill film, used the demo as reference point during production. Even Kojima isn’t quite gone yet PT behind it: his next title, the horror game FROM, has drawn comparisons to its previously playable teaser. It’s a shame that both the demo and the game were lost, but they remain in more ways than one.
