Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii was mocked on social media Thursday for her opening questions to Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum during his confirmation hearing.
““As part of my responsibility to ensure the suitability of candidates before each of the committees on which I sit, I ask the following two initial questions,” Hirono said Thursday about Burgum ever making unwanted requests for sexual favors or verbal or physical harassment or have committed sexual assaults?”
“No, Senator, I didn’t,” Burgum replied.
““Have you ever been disciplined or made a settlement related to this type of behavior?” Hirono then asked.

“I didn’t,” Burgum said.
Hirono, who has asked similar opening questions to several other candidates in the past, including Defense Secretary candidate Pete Hegseth and Attorney General candidate Pam Bondi, was widely criticized by conservatives on social media over the line of questioning.

Conservative comedian Tim Young Posted on X that “the more Mazie Hirono asks cabinet nominees if they have sexually assaulted someone…the more I think it is her fault.”
Henry Rogers, the Daily Caller’s chief correspondent, called Hirono “deranged” on the X.
Hirono’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
