Christmas joy will return to the historic West Bank city of Bethlehem after a two-year hiatus due to the Gaza War.
Bethlehem Mayor Maher Canawati announced that celebrations will resume starting December 6 with a Christmas tree lighting in the famous Manger Square.
“From the heart of Bethlehem, the Birthplace of Christthe city of peace – once again we light the flame of hope and raise our prayers for peace,” the mayor said in a video posted on Instagram.

“Let us celebrate the message of Christmas together,” he added. “Glory be to God on high – on earth peace, goodwill for all. Bethlehem keeps the light alive.”
Manger Square in the center of Bethlehem is named after the manger in which Jesus was laid after his birth.
