The coming Marvel 1943: Rise of the Hydra puts players in the shoes of Captain America And Black panther as they become uneasy allies to stop the Nazis in World War II. If that wasn’t enticing enough for you, the game was brought to you by Skydance and Amy Hennig, a director and writer of titles like the first three Unexplored games and Legacy of Cain Series.
So far, Marvel’s triple-A games have all been set in the relative present, but Hennig spoke Weekly entertainment about how the game is influenced by the World War II setting. As she narrates it, she and her co-writers Marc Bernardin and Todd Stashwick were able to tell a story in the style of action-adventure films of the period. Think of a “boys on a mission” movie in which Nazis are killed or beaten up, and it sounds like you have a good idea of what to expect. The ultimate goal, Hennig says, is to give players “the look, feel and sound of a great Marvel movie or television show, but you control the action.”
Since Miracle 1943 is a “globe traveling story” where players travel to various locations, including occupied Paris and Azzuri’s homeland of Wakanda. In the game, it is isolated from the outside world and protected by an “impenetrable jungle,” but Hennig said the Wakandans are “drawn into war.” Although they have taken a stance of non-interference, “the world is getting smaller and they have to protect their interests.” (…) You can shoot down planes that might want to fly over Wakanda, but how long can you stay in the shadows?” This question is explored through the eyes of Azzuri and Steve, as well as their respective main allies, the Wakandan spy Nanali and the howling commando Gabe Jones – all four are said to be playable throughout Miracle 1943, So you’ll probably all have something to say on the matter.
Marvel 1943: Rise of the Hydra is expected to be released in 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
