Michigan teacher, 26, facing charges after allegedly telling coworker she had sex with 16-year-old student

A former teacher at A Michigan Charter School Supposedly had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student and told a colleague about it, according to the authorities.

The 26-year-old Jocelyn Sanoman was charged with the third degree for sexual behavior, Fox 2 reported.

The alleged sexual relationship occurred in 2023 when SanRoman was a teacher Oakside Prep AcademyA charter school in Waterford Township, about 30 miles from downtown Detroit.

SanRoman had not been charged on Monday morning, but her search photo was published by the MPs in Oakland County.

SanRoman told another teacher about her sexual relationship with the teenager and this teacher she reported to the policeAccording to Fox 2, the prosecutors said.

“This accused is accused of using their authority position to take advantage of a small victim,” said Karen McDonald, public prosecutor of Oakland County. “These allegations represent the final violation of the parents and the community.”

“As a former teacher, I welcome the teacher who contacted the police about this situation and protected other students from further exploitation,” she added.

McDonald said a 16-year-old could agree, but that is not the same if the relationship with a teacher is.

“It is because we have to make the school the safest place where you can be children for children, right from gun violence, before attack, surely before sexual attacks,” said McDonald. “The school should be a place where their children feel safe.”

In the event of a conviction, SanRoman could be faced with a prison sentence of up to 15 years.

School officials said that the allegations were worrying and they had acted from the allegations immediately after the knowledge.

“We strive for a safe and supportive learning environment for the students who are entrusted to our care. Your security and well -being remain our top priority,” the school said in a statement to FOX 2.

The Oakside Prep Academy is part of the National Heritage Academies system, which has its “moral focus” lessons, which help the students “appreciate the difference between correct and wrong”, says the school’s website.

“Our K-12 curriculum includes a strong moral focus, including endurance, respect, compassion and courage in daily activities,” says the website. “Every month, the students focus on another aspect of moral development and build their understanding from the introduction, reflection and application. This method promotes self-confidence, empathy and resistance and helps them to thrive during their entire K-12 trip within a nourishing school community.”
