NYPD says ‘not a terrorist attack’ after 10 shot outside NYC event space

The New York Police Department (NYPD) assured the public that it was “not a terrorist attack” after 10 people were shot outside the Amazura nightclub Jamaica, Queens on New Year’s Day – the same day a terrorist attack took place in New Orleans.

At around 11:18 p.m., officers received several 911 calls about “multiple people” being shot at a private event. According to the police, there were around 90 people at the venue for the event.

According to police, three to four men approached the venue and opened fire more than 30 times toward a group standing in line outside the venue, striking several vehicles.

The men ran west on 91st Street to 143rd Place, where they got into a light-colored sedan with out-of-state license plates. Police said the shooting was “not a terrorist attack.”
