The 2025 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans was postponed just hours before kickoff Wednesday after at least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured in an act of terrorism that federal officials are investigating.
Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley spoke to local and federal officials at a news conference Wednesday afternoon to confirm that the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between Georgia and Notre Dame will be postponed for 24 hours.
“We wish we weren’t here today for this reason. The Sugar Bowl Committee has been a good corporate citizen of the city of New Orleans for 90 years, and that is why this tragedy hurts us as much as anyone else right now. Ours.” “Condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families as we all work through this,” Hundley said.

“All parties agree that it is in the best interest of all public safety stakeholders to postpone the game for 24 hours.”
“There will be more details on this in the coming hours, but for now that is the plan, that we will go ahead and play the game.” [tomorrow.]”
The postponement follows reports that the Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, was initially locked down for security checks and that people with offices at the stadium were ordered not to report to the site until further notice.
That policy also included representatives from the Sugar Bowl and Sun Belt Conference, a source told The Associated Press.
According to an FBI statement, a man driving a Ford pickup drove into a crowd on Bourbon Street around 3:15 p.m. local time. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, exchanged fire with local police forces before being pronounced dead at the scene.
At least ten people were killed and 35 others injured in the apparent terrorist attack.
The FBI is also working to determine “the individual’s possible connections and affiliations with terrorist organizations” after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. Weapons and a potential IED were located in the suspect’s vehicle, and additional potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter.
The New Orleans tragedy occurred as thousands of fans traveled to the historic city ahead of Wednesday night’s Sugar Bowl.

The Superdome is just a mile from the site of Wednesday morning’s deadly attack.
Georgia and Notre Dame arrived in New Orleans on Sunday and reportedly stayed in hotels just blocks from the crime scene. Both schools have reportedly set up “accommodation” for the teams.
