Sony Corp. and Playstation have a new tour

Sony Corp. Shaken the leading management of the company and in its most important Playstation department. It has appointed Hiroki Totoki as CEO job, and Hideaki Nishino will be the only CEO of the PlayStation Division, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Totoki, a 38-year-old Sony veteran, will replace Kenichiro Yoshida as CEO on April 1, 2025. (Yes, it’s not April Fool’s joke). Totoki was previously Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer. That’s correct. He is a financial type, not a technologist or captain who runs the entire business.

Hiroki Totoki is the new Sony CEO.

As early as May 2024, Nishino was appointed CEO of the Business Group platform by Sony Interactive, while Game developer Hermen Hulst was appointed CEO of the Division of Studio Business Group. They replaced the CEO Jim Ryan after retiring. Now Nishino Hulst’s boss will be. Nisino’s new title is President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment and is still CEO of the Business Group platform and the Studio Business Group. Hulst will guide the development, publication and business companies of ER’s first party content.

Hulst will also make it work with Sony Pictures to develop adaptations of his games as television programs, films and other Transmedia via PlayStation productions.

In the meantime, at the beginning of this month, Sony Pictures Entertainment changed a change when Ravi Ahuja CEO took over Tony Vinciquerra. Ahuja appeared on his first day as CEO at the CES 2025 press event from Sony. And Lin Tao is the new CFO for Sony – the first woman CFO in the 80 years of the company.

Sony has around 110,000 employees with large companies in cameras and imaging devices, television sets, Playstation Game consoles as well as films and television programs. It also makes a new electric car with Honda – The Afeela, packed with a PlayStation 5.

Yoshida has headed Sony since 2018. During this time he concentrated on high margin products such as cameras and acquired Emi as part of Sony Music for $ 3.5 billion.

My observation of these changes? I know all the products, games and consoles from Sony. But I no longer recognize the people who lead the company. I once knew all leaders like Kaz Hirai, Andrew House, Jack Tretton, Shawn Layden, Hermen Hulst, Shu Yoshida, Adam Boyes and more. Well, pretty much nobody.

In an explanation, Yoshida said that on the basis of his successes at Sony, he suggested Totoki to follow the regime change and to thanks Totoki for investments in IP and semiconductor in content and semiconductor. Yoshida continues as chairman.
