The EU will defend its borders, says the French minister in response to Trump’s threats to Greenland

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the EU would not allow any country to “attack its sovereign borders” after Donald Trump refused to rule out taking Greenland by force.

Asked about the prospect of a US invasion of Danish territory, Barrot told radio station France Inter: “It is obviously out of the question that the European Union will attack other nations in the world, whoever they are, and I would even say , starting with Russia, will allow an attack on its sovereign borders. We are a strong continent, we must continue to strengthen ourselves.”

He added that he did not expect Trump to invade Greenland, but added that Europe needs to “wake up” to a more uncertain world.
