Usyk vs. Fury 2: Ignacio Robles named substitute judge after coin toss determines outcome | Boxing News

Ignacio Robles will be the third referee in Tyson Fury’s heavyweight world championship fight with Oleksandr Usyk after a coin toss on Saturday evening.

Fernando Barbosa was scheduled to be one of the three judges on the night of the fight, but was unable to travel to Riyadh due to illness, so the respective fight teams were split between officials Steve Weisfeld and Robles.

Usyk’s rematch with the British Fury will take place on Saturday evening in the Riyadh Season program, live on Sky Sports box office.

Controversy arose at the Usyk v Fury 2 rules session after it was announced that third judge Fernando Barboza had withdrawn due to illness. The rival camps disagree over who should replace him.

The WBO, WBA and WBC championships, which Usyk won in her first fight against Fury, are at stake.

The other major point of contention before the fight is the length of Fury’s beard. Usyk’s team wonders if he can actually absorb a blow.

Tyson Fury weighed the heaviest 281 pounds of his career, but the former heavyweight champion refused to take off his clothes, raising questions about his true weight.

Fury is under no obligation to cut it off for the fight, but Usyk’s camp insists it should be cut off.

Promoter Alex Krassyuk told Sky Sports: “The beard rule is grossly violated. The WBC rules clearly state: “A boxer may wear a trimmed beard and/or mustache so long as, in the discretion of the commission and supervisor, the thickness of facial hair does not: (1) cushion” or in any way the impact or trajectory of punches influence or (2) inflict cuts or abrasions on his rival.”

“So,” Krassyuk continued, “Tyson’s beard needs trimming. We will continue to push it forward.”

However, the WBC has “no problem” with the length of Fury’s beard.
