President Donald Trump honors the retired US Army SGT. Michael Verardo, one of the catastrophic wounded heroes of The Afghanistan warwho died on Tuesday at the age of 40 for complications from injuries on the battlefield.
Trump praised Verardo in a social contribution of truth as a “true American hero”, whose courage and victim “inspire us forever”.
Verardo’s story was not only a victim for his nation, but also of permanent effect. His courage in the face of devastating injuries and his wife Sarah’s determination led to the creation of the Independence funds Trackchair initiative for wounded veterans.

On April 24, 2010, Verardo entered an IED at the River Valley with River Valley in Afghanistan.

Sarah has long talked about the invisible challenges her husband wore after the explosion. “He had poly trauma, which means that several systems have suffered catastrophic injuries,” she said in an interview with the Providence Journal and found that his recovery was never a straight line. “The uniform of our nation was the honor of his life and it is the honor of mine,” she said in the same interview.

North Carolina honored Verardo by declaring heroes day wounded on April 24th. Despite the ongoing medical challenges and cognitive difficulties in later years, he remained an example of persistence and resilience for everyone who knew him.
Sarah often emphasized that Triumph assumed many forms: “Some amputated races for prosthetics, but with others one victory simply creates another day. I keep both inspiring.”

As CEO of the Independence Fund, Sarah transformed her personal struggle into a national movement. She helped start the trackchair initiative in collaboration with Fox News and his spectators, brought millions of dollars and changed lives.
